With a cutting width of 21 inches and a lightweight, compact build, the Husqvarna 5521P is the ideal lawn mower for those people that have small to medium sized properties. It does have the power to tackle larger lawns, but due to its small cutting width more passes would need to be made than with a larger model.
Managing the grass clippings is one of the main headaches that people face while trying to maintain an attractive lawn. This mower gives the user three different options of how to tackle this problem. Most people are aware that many mowers discharge the clippings to the side as the grass is cut, but this mower can also mulch and disperse the clippings or collect them in a bag that is attached to the rear of the mower. The bag that comes with this mower has a 1 7/8 bushel capacity.
Tightening a few bolts to lock the handle in place is all the assembly that is necessary, so the Husqvarna 5521P is ready to work in a matter of minutes after removing it from the packing and adding the proper oil and fuel.
This mower starts quickly and runs well over various types of terrain. The 2.9 HP engine of the Husqvarna 5521P gives it the power necessary to make it through thick grass or even grass that is over a foot tall. It won’t stall out even if the grass is damp. With the option of setting the cutting height to any of five different settings between 1.25 and 3.42 inches on this mower, you can choose the height that makes your lawn look its best.
The compact structure is ideal for those tight areas around shrubs and corners that are common with many smaller lawns. Due to its lightweight build, maneuverability on lawns that are uneven is not an issue. This is aided by the 12 inch wheels in the rear.
The option of three different cutting capabilities gives the user more control over how they want to deal with the grass clippings. Since it is simple to change, the user can choose differently each time the grass is cut so that different situations can be handled in the best way possible.
The Husqvarna 5521P has a lot going for it, but some taller users might have an issue with the height of the handle. Although it is adjustable, there is a maximum limit to how high the handle can be set. This might cause discomfort as the user bends to reach the handle and push the mower, especially on rougher terrain where more effort is needed.
Adjusting the cutting height has to be done individually on each wheel and they all must be set the same in order for the lawn mower to roll evenly and cut the grass properly. Since there are 5 settings that span just a little over two inches, the settings are close together and it is not hard to accidentally misalign one of them.
There can also be an issue with the connection between the mower and the collection bag that might result in some grass clippings escaping and spreading onto the rear of the mower.
Considering that the issues with this mower are rather minor and might only affect some users, it is still quite a good product. It handles well and it does a good job on various types of lawns. For a lawn mower in the $200-$300 range, this is a good deal.
